Joe Chin, A.S.E. certified master auto repair technician and advanced level diagnostic technician, has opened his own shop after almost two decades as Mr. Goodwrench. He has been repairing cars and motorcycles for more than 30 years, the last 19 at Loren Buick where, he says, “I was the go-to guy.”
Bill Rugusi, who followed Chin to J.E.R.S. Automotive, his new shop, after taking his Buick and two Chevy trucks to him for years at Loren, says, “I think he’s wonderful. Everything he’s done has been superb.”
Chin is also an engine machinist and can rebuild engines. He repairs all makes of cars and trucks, foreign and domestic.
A state certified teacher of automotive and motorcycle repairs, he has taught in trade schools as well as training apprentices at Loren. “I’m proudest that people are making a living from what I taught them.” He’s also proud of his reputation for honesty and that people, like Rugusi, followed him when he opened in August.
“My goal is to keep your car safe and reliable,” Chin says. “I think of myself as the family doctor for your vehicles, making sure that whether you take a short drive or a long trip you and your family will be confident that your transportation will get you there.”
He adds that his customers can save up to 50 percent on repairs with dealer quality workmanship and premium parts.
“I’m proudest that people are making a living from what I taught them.”
J.E.R.S., derived from the initials of himself, his wife and two children, has four bays and is located a bit out of the way in an industrial office complex. It is at 1870 Johns Drive in Glenview. Still, he notes, the shop is walking distance from both Glenview Train stations and the Glen and has 24-hour roadside and towing assistance available.
